Open Beta Diaries: Now it’s Your Turn

Hey folks, you probably already have noticed that last week, we had our final installment of the closed beta diary. We hope that we have given all of those a good impression of Forge of Empires, who did not have the chance of playing the closed beta. But luckily, as the open beta started last week, all of you have the chance of playing the game now. Therefore, we are planning an open beta diary and now it’s your turn!

While playing the open beta of Forge of Empires, all of you are having different experiences and encounter a number of various challenges and achievements. And we are interested in them and your stories! Over the next couple of weeks we are planning open beta diary entries featured by you – the players. So starting today, it’s your chance of telling us your story. Let us know what it’s like for you to be a mighty ruler in Forge of Empires? What challenges did you overcome? Which hard battles did you leave victoriously? But also, which ones did you lose, and why? How is your city progressing, and what do you like especially about it?

Our favorite stories will be featured in the upcoming open beta diaries. So let us know about your experiences and submit them to: your.story@innogames.de

I like to play this, but I’m worried over the slow Servers.
Special clicking the continents map. takes ages to load, and sometimes it wont load at all.
Since I use quite a lot to buy Diamonds, this problem should be corrected.

    • bob

John it’s something with your internet connection timing out as i have no problems loading the map in a few seconds at most.

  2. Dominik Holjevac

hmm, well i am looking forward to try it out.
this is a single player campaing thing right, no need to worry about other players suddenly attacking me?
i like to play and build my citys in peace, and if i somehow end up having to pay for items to have my city into a peace period will i i propably end up leaving this game behind as well, as i like to relax and sit back and let the city do its work.

  7. Sven Ruhberg

yes,i sometimes also experienced slow server and loading problems but i think the developer working on that issue.
    >>> But i also have a question to them or whoever can help me :
i´m on beta and have a problem on the continent map. I have explored Ost-Nagach first, then West-Nagach and after that Karchagu. Now my problem is how do i get in position to spy on the Northern Territory of West-Nagach since my Spotter is still remaining in Karchagu??? Has anybody a idea how to get him back on track?

    • innogames

      Hi Sven,

despite your Spotter remaining in Karchagu, you should still be able to spy on the Northern Territory of West-Nagach.

would like to play this game, 1 can sign on to forum tells me using invalid name or pass word but it s what i used to login into game 2 would like to know how combact works, how to control troop, 3 how to get space the in needed to contruct what is asked for by the games looks like fun

    • innogames

      Hi Paul,

Let me try to answer your questions:
      1. Before you can log into the FOE-Forum, you need to register first. You do not automatically register with your in-game-account.
      2. The combat in FOE is turn-based. So you control each of your troops individually. With every unit you can both move and attack. The range of each unit is marked in green.
      3. You get more space through expansions. You get them through different ways, for example by conquering new territories or by researching them.

    Hi there.

First of all congrats, very nice game and pretty addictive.
I would have a question, I post it here since I couldn’t find any address for support and (my fault maybe) I couldn’t even find a forum, so try to make these things a bit more visible if possible. :)

I’m in the middle of Iron Age and playing pretty smoothly so far; unfortunately I’m pretty stuck at the moment for 1 big reason: lack of Dye!!!

In order to research some new stuff I need tons of Dye, since I produce something else (wine, lable stones, wood, ) I was thinking to trade in the market the excess of my resources in exchange of Dye…well…nobody is offering Dye in the market…and this means I can’t go on with the game since I can’t do any research at the moment and to produce Dye it will take me 2 days only for 6…and I need more than 30..

So my question, is there a way to trade with more players or another way to get Dye?

This dead point is a pity..can’t produce Dye, can’t trade it, can’t even buy it…

Thanks and sorry if I posted in a wrong place.

    Cheers!

      Hi John,

Thank you for your comment. You can find our forum at: http://forum.en.forgeofempires.com/ The forum is also accessible via the game, just press the “open forum” button on the HUD.

Unfortunately, at the moment there is no possibility to trade with further players. But we are working on that. If you conquer more territories you also have the chance of getting a territory with dye as good deposit, allowing you to produce dye more efficiently. But I am sure, that in the near future, there are some other players who desperately need some wine, stone or wood, offering you dye in exchange.

    Hi folks from InnoGames,
the game has a good design, but the stability is a catastrophy. Today it is worst, after nearly every click I will get “Oops, Service Aufruf ist fehlgeschlagen” and the game will restart. This makes it impossible to play.
I will stop beta testing now and try again in a month or so.

    • innogames

Hi lupusthemage thanks a lot for your feedback. We are aware of this problem and will fix it a.s.a.p.

There is a misinterpretations of what strategy means, but there are many misinterpretations of many words, in the American-English language and this does lead to disagreements between people. Chess is considered a “Strategy Game” because it takes more than “Numerical Superiority” to win a game. There are `gambits’ and it is defined by the “New World Dictionary of the American Language”, as gambit is; “1. Chess an opening in which a pawn or other piece is sacrificed to get an advantage in position.” and “2. a maneuver or action intended to gain an advantage.”, reference page 573 of the 1980 copyright. It is obvious a gambit is a tactic, as part of a strategy, but the game relies on more than gambits. So, it is with Strategy games, as these are referred to, but are not Strategy, at all, but mere `number crunching’ games. The reliance on numbers, in war is very small, in comparison, to the overall purpose of war. War has objectives and these are not always,`killing the opponent’ but achieving goals to affect victory. The “New World Dictionary of the American Language” defines “Strategy” as; 1.a) the science of planning and directing large-scale military operations, specif. (as distinguished from TACTICS) of maneuvering forces into the most advantageous position prior to actual engagement, with the enemy.”, reference page 1407 of the 1980 copyright.

From this definition one must ask them self, “If this is not a strategy game then what is it? Is it a lie, deception or just another word used inappropriately, to get one’s attention and even convince them that they know about `strategy’.

The fact is, the definition does not fit the current games of “Computer Strategy Games”. Nearly 99 percent of all computer games are based on “numerical superiority”, such as “I have 10, you have 2. You lose five time over.” There is no `Strategy’ and it does not take a massive amount of intelligence to divide 2 into 10 and equal 5 times the value of the divisor . That is simple mathematics and even a second grader knows how to divide numbers. In War games or Simulations of War, number values are assigned to certain capabilities that all humans have, in a general sense. There are those who can run faster and some who can’t run at all. There are some that are thin and some that are fat. There is short and tall and everything in between. There are Weapons and Armor, Armaments, Artifices, and even Formations with Morale, weather conditions which affect the battlefields and even psychological affects based on the ideas of warfare. There are swallow rivers, hilltop, valleys, depressions, escarpment, wadis, dense, light woods and thickets and every terrain feature, known in geology with botany and other scientific studies. There is more to fighting War or Armed Conflict than sheer numbers. All of these can be translated into numeric values and applied, as variables to arrive at a results. It is the task of the Game designers to include these, all of these, if their goal is to create a “Strategy game” that involves stratagems. Stratagems are defined as “1. a trick, scheme or plan for deceiving an enemy in war” and “2. any trick or scheme for achieving some purpose.”, according to “New World Dictionary of the American English Language”, reference page 1407 of the 1980 copyright. I may say my strategy is “kick ass and take names” but that is not a strategy and does not fit the definition. The question is, “How do you plan to, as you say, “kiss ass and take names”? It certainly will require more than words and probably involve stratagems and some tacticalmethodologies. I shall cover “Tactics” later but focus now on a clear definition of a strategy game and the 20th century gameplay and game mechanics to simulate “War” or “Armed Conflict”. It does help, for me, because, in junior high school, I began playing, `Strategy games’, in 1964-65. The makers of these were Avalon Hill (AH) and later Simulation Publications, Inc (SPI). AH began about 1958, with a game called “Dispatcher”. Not a game based on war but on running a railroad… and you thought “Railroad Tycoon” was new? There are more things under the sun, than one realizes. AH did not create the first “War Game” and it is believed that Civilizations, in antiquity, created games of strategy, to train young leaders, usually of autocratic or royal lineages. It said that, Greeks played a game called “Pen-ta” or “penta” Africa Tribesmen played startegy games, as well as Romans and even the barbaric hordes as enemies of Rome. The games were created to also, discover any new strategies or tactics, not previously understood. Even in the American Civil War, Southerners played a board game; then called “Parlor games”; because it was appropriate to play games in the parlors of homes and not on the kitchen table. The game was called, “Blockade Runner”. I doubt any copies exist today, but it was very popular in the South. Players tried to get past the Union Blockade, of the South, in Privateers (Sloops) which could out run the heavier warships. Jefferson Davis and the Confederate states paid a set value for cargo brought back from England, France, even the Dutch, with other European nation, with coastlines. If enlightened the dangers of Blockade running and some ships; like the “Ella and Annie” with the “Florida”, “Jefferson Davis”, Rattlesnake” and many others were patriotic vessels with brave crewmen, that ran the blockade, to even the Southeast Indies. I submit a complete known list of all Confederate States Ships (C.S. = Confederate States Navy):

The game was popular and played in parlors of southern mansions. So, the “War Game” is not a advent of modern America, but a business, to make money. Seldom with a sense of patriotism but an eye on the “Almighty Dollar”. Even “Monopoly”, created in 1933, during the depression, was a means of those who could afford the game, to cope with the “Great Depression” and even the “Great Dust Bowl” of the Midwest. It was popular, after the depression, and became a game that many families played, as a family. In one sense of the word, it is a “War” games but not much strategy because it is primarily the “Luck of the Die”. There are few approaches and even fewer stratagems, in Monopoly. If you have the money, you can buy Boardwalk, for cheap, as the New Jersey boardwalk sold very cheaply, in those times. The ride operators could not afford to be open and the public did not have the money. It did become a picnic location, on the East Coast and by the 1920 onward, the place to go for a vacation, by the Middle Class and up. The poor only dreamed of spending the summer on the beach.

As far as “Forge of Empires” goes, it is close to a Strategy game but still falls short of actual Strategy. It is a simple game and even a twelve year old could play and win, except that many 12 year old believe they are more sophisticated than previous generations, because those they admire say that, to only curry favor. Their sophistication is revealed by their arrogance and their misguided believe in self. Growing-up with a Personal Computer does not make one sophisticated, merely having an advantage that previous generation did not have, in their youth. Sophistication is defined as, by “New World Dictionary of the English Language” as; “1. not simple, artless, naive, etc.; urbane, worldly-wise, etc. or knowledgeable, perceptive, subtle, etc. 2. designed for or appealing to sophisticated people. 3. highly complex, refined, or developed; characterized by advanced form, technique, etc. ”

One should notice many things about this definition, first it destroys the illusion of being told one is more sophisticated simple by operating a computer, calculator or even a cellphone. The game definitely lacks “sophistication” is game design and game mechanics. The language of adolescents is not subtle, their perceptions are `pie-eyed’ and that word usage will prove their lack of knowledge of the English language. They are not Worldly, unless one considers smoking in adolescence and even sexually active, as “Worldly”. Many are artless, as in Dickens “Artful Dodger”. The game lack sophistication in more ways than I could care to offer, at no cost to someone drawing profit from a game on the Internet. My experiences are actual, in combat, as I was born a “Male” and was drafted in the US Army, in 1972. I was 20 years old and I had already seen `Death’ before Vietnam. I was a Squad Sergeant, at 20 years old and according to the US Army; “a natural born leader”. I did not buy that concept but I had no choice, regarding the promotion. There was a need and I suited that need. I came to the US Army as an Eagle scout, a member of JLT (Junior Leadership Training), the USMC “Devil Pups”, and even SLPP (Senior Leadership Preparation Program) training and I was the “Honored Graduate” of my cycle, in BCT (Basic Combat Training). I had been a squad leader in BCT, upon being drafted and I became the Platoon Leader, in BCT, after an Army Reservist candidate and a National Guard candidate Trainees, failed to bring results. I was a Draftee; or AUS, and we were not popular, in the US Army. Many had the concept that we were incapable of doing our duty and even unwilling to sacrifice our lives, for the US Constitution. Yes, I am a Male-to-Female Transsexual Veteran of combat experience, in firefight, shelling, air-mobile operations and two hand-toi-hand close combats, alone. My appearance betrays their perception of my capabilities. I did kill 33 Viet-Cong confirmed, after many firefights. I was wounded three times and hold the Purple Heart with Oak Cluster. I have commanded young men in war and even counselled them about their problems, back home. Giving orders was a simple matter of do it in a gentle tone or demanding it. I seldom had to demand anything because I speak with authoritative voice. JLT, SLPP and “Devil Pup” training.

My existence as a Transsexual has nothing to with Manhood but merely I was born the wrong sex; Male instead of Female. I am college educated; in Pure & Social sciences with advance studies in Fine Art – Filmmaking and philosphy. Yes, I have made motion pictures and I worked in the Hollywood Industry. Like the US Army, I did not agree with Hollywood concepts and I found Hollywood to be filled with too many “wanna-be” types capable of doing speaking the written word and filled with the ideas Dreams are made of. I am a grandmother of three Grandsons and my children are over 30 years old. I have been more places than most will ever see, in their lifetime and that does include every Nation in Europe. I was stationed at Bamberg, West Germany, at Warner Barracks; now close, and was assigned to the Theatre Command of USAEUR, in Heidelberg. I was an E5 (Buck Sergeant), in less than 6 months, because I could lead and I used common sense, instead of rationalizing. I had to question many things for the welfare of my fellow soldiers and my own survivial. John Wayne could not cut it in the US Army and was General discharged. The only Japanese he kill got up, after the director said “Cut!” then they probably had coffee, together. The Duke is a myth and the US Army made jokes about acting like John Wayne. I had the opportunity to meet Franz Mueller of Munich, Germany, in late 1973. He had a history, as a Political prisoner of the Nazis and was freed by Americans. I knew of him before I met him, via his daughter, Lucy Mueller. We talked and I learned much from Herr Mueller and never regretted meeting him. He was a delightful man and very Pro-American. I was offered to attend the Munchen Film School, in 1974, by Franz Mueller, but refused because I had not been home in two years. I do regret not working with Warner Herzog and Claus Kinskey. I have studied German Neo-Expressionism in Cinema, of the early 1910-1920s. Fritz Lang, and Dwyer with other German filmmakers were a definate part of my advance studies, in Motion Pictures. Leni Riefenstahl was devoted Nazi but a superb filmmakers. I have studied her films as well as Frank Capra, John Ford and many other World War Two filmmakers. I had the chance to view some films from Simon Wiesenthal collection, in the 1980s. I love motion picture making and still work in it, as semi-retired. I am a screenwriter and director with Sound Recordist, as well.

I would be happy to work with InnoGames, to improve “Forge of Empires” into a Best Game of at least the Decade, or longer. I have the knowledge of the many charts, tables and dice rolls that could improve the Combat Resolution of the game. I could offer advise with experience on Game design and Game mechanics plus complexity ratings and numerous other Strategy Game elements. It takes only understanding the systems once used by Board Game companies like Avalon Hill and SPI with numerous other small companies. Even the applications of Tabletop gaming (miniatures or toy soldiers) is highly adaptable. It only take an E-Mail and a discussion on remunerations, for my work and my knowledge. I would not mind seeing Europe again and I do enjoy the Craftsmanship of German designers. The culture is suitable and I do speak some German. My Grandparent, and my last name, “Vest” originated from Germany, in the 1800s. My Grandmother’s maiden name was Billerman, for Berlin area and my Grandfather was from Bavaria. I loved Ansbach and I was able to travel Europe, historical sight, during my 11 months, of duty in West Germany.

    Respectfully,
    Rachel M. Vest

      Hi Goodex,

the player XYZ is the current champion, because he won the last PvP Championship. But he is now on rank 7, because a new tournament has already started.

It seems I cannot offer any trade. Every time I create an offer , my resources disappear, but I never reciece anything in return, nor does my offer appear in Your current offers.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong

    • innogames

      Hi Dirigur,

thank you for your comment. When you create a new offer, it should always appear in the “Your Current Offers”-section. We forwarded your problem to our developers. Please keep in mind, that the best way to report bugs and ask for help is in the forum at: http://forum.en.forgeofempires.com/ as our developers constantly monitor the forum.

  15. Goodex

how can I get the most PVP fighting points? another gamer has as much fights as I but he has 7000 points more then I. why is that?
    sorry for my bad english^^

    • innogames

      Hi Goodex,

the best way to get more PVP fighting points is by winning battles ;)

      • Goodex

I nearly win every fight :)
And there is no difference between rank #1 and #70. When I attack #1 i get 250 points and when I attack #70 I get 150 points. Shoudn’t I get more points when I attack the #1 ?

  16. I have trouble buying diamonds. When clicking to buy them I get a white blank page. How can you buy them?
When I go to my inventory it is empty. How are we able to use this to store some inventory?
When regersting in the form it asked for the purpose of the game. What is the answer for this?
It would be nice to have a place to show all of our inventory we produce, then we could some how post them for trade, sale, or use them we research our new technologies. We need to be able to get more expansions causerun out of room to quick when you haveto keep building items to keep your people and keep your production at a high rate. Mayebe it would be if we could then use our other inventory to buy diamonds or we should be able to mine for our diamonds.

    Thank you
    jlefty

    • innogames

      Hi jlefty,

we forwarded the problem with buying diamonds to our developers. Sorry for the inconvenience, our developers will fix this issue a.s.a.p. The inventory is a new feature that we are implementing in the game at the moment. So in the next couple of days, you will be able to use the inventory.

wow this game sucks, sooo not worth the wait

    • Charlotte

At the risk of annoying the sponsors of this game:

Your Home page has taken over my computer and there seems to be no way to delete it. Permanently. I am 78, do not play this kind of game. So there.

Please tell me how to get rid of this intrusion.

      • innogames

        Hi Charlotte,

Thank you for your comment. What exactly do you mean by “has taken over my computer”? You can log out of the game in the upper right corner, next to the diamonds indicator. However, we forwarded your problem to our developers, but you can also find some additional help in our forum at: http://forum.en.forgeofempires.com/forum.php

Great game, didn’t read all posts but a chat feature in game would certainly be an asset for the many trying to learn.

  19. joppy

Looking to start this game after growing bored with Grepolis, which has a major problem with asymmetry. In that game, players who have been playing for awhile simply overwhelm newer players and there is very little strategy involved–only large players dominating small players with alliances not being of much use. In the end, it is pretty tedious exercise. I was expecting something more along the lines of battle and war conditions on par with some of the old Avalon Hill or SPI games which required complex knowledge of battle conditions and created more realistic battle situations(some individual cities in Grepolis contain more ships than were ever built in all of Ancient Greece–making it a game of stamina and repetition more than strategy)

My question–has Forge of Empires solved this, possibly by grouping players of similar size with each other and creating a more complex or realistic battle structure?

    • innogames

      Hi Joppy,

we have a different PvP system in Forge of Empires. There are different PvP tournaments for each of the ages. So players are grouped together regarding the age they are in. This ensures that all of the people have similar troops, making tactical decision more vital.

    • innogames

  22. theognis

It’s impossible to play without flashplayer 11.2 but I can’t get it since my mac still runs on Tiger…

    • DragonLight

I registered today, verified e-mail, and was able to log on, but I can’t place a hut as instructed by the tutorial. Is anyone else having the same problem or is it just me?

      Thanks

      • innogames

        Hi DragonLight,

do you still have problems placing a hut? You might also find some helpful information in our forum: forum.en.forgeofempires.com

  23. Marty

    Hey developers,
Adobe flash 11.2. is not available for android

  24. RUBEN

I wonder when they will leave the original!

  25. Gunderan

Worst game ever.Every time you log on for more than 5 minutes the server crashes,if you do not stay in the game for ten minutes then it doesn’t register that you have set things in motion(i have lost hundreds of supplies due to this bug)
The concept is good but the execution is rubbish and the programming awful.Imagine having the sheer gall to charge for this disgusting,
The new update sucks, people who had less than 100,000 points having over a thousand and people over 200,000 having less than 2,000.Trade is stupid ten to 1 plus a forge point sheesh and finally you cannot even delete your account so Inno can say”look at our users when most are inactive.
My email addy is not for sale grrrrrrrrr

    • Judy Thompson

Gunderan, you might try installing firefox. I had trouble with a few games crashing that way and running badly on IE, so I turned them over to Firefox, and they run beautifully there.

  26. playing the game on the mentioned website the link to ad diamonds works perfect.
As I play it also on the br site, of course as Klientje and with the second @ in the email box the link to buy diamonds doesn’t work, why??
I started to play the game on the Brazilian website br1.forgeofempires.com.
Txs for your quick reply because the game will be blocked very soon as I cannot evoluate anymore without buying diamonds.
Good game, I love it, I’m on pos 4 in BR and the 1st on the NL.

    • innogames

      Hi Luca,

if you have problems buying diamonds in the Brazilian version of Forge of Empires, please report a ticket by right clicking in-game and then choosing support. There you can select premium as type and then report your problem.

  27. when i made 20 wine and clicked on it to get it it just diapeard and i cant find a support team for forge of empires any where. my 2 fruit farms and my potery plus my black smith all got spoiled with out an attack

  28. Judy Thompson

The graphics are stunning, the building is just plain fun. However, I am truly disappointed at the promise of “Free to Play” which is just that–however, if you want to progress, you must buy items in the shop with diamonds, and you have to buy diamonds with hard cash. Not surprising, but still a disappointment. I find the battle areas are slow, and very difficult to implement, with several unexplained hitches between soliders and movement. It should be smoother than that.
This also requires nearly constant checking on, since it runs in the background whether you’re there or not, meaning your buildings build themselves, your crafts construct themselves and–if you’re not there they spoil and you have to start over. This is an ideal game for someone who is in front of a computer anyway most of the time, but not for off and on agains like me.
The tutorials are excellent, easily implemented without being obtrusive. However, the little people in my “stone age” beginning game are more medieval than stone age, as are the knights. A minor thing, but a bit silly.
